Following the announcement of ChatGPT integration at WWDC2025, Apple is preparing to introduce Anthropic's Claude AI assistant into the Xcode development environment, offering developers more AI programming options.
According to an in-depth analysis by 9to5Mac of the code in Xcode 26 beta 7, Apple has mentioned built-in support for Anthropic accounts multiple times in the new "smart" feature, particularly for Claude Sonnet 4.0 and the version of Claude Opus 4 released on May 14. This indicates that although ChatGPT is currently the only model with first-party Xcode integration, the infrastructure for native Claude support is already in place.

Apple first introduced the concept of Swift Assist at WWDC24, aiming to create an AI programming assistant similar to GitHub Copilot, but it has not been officially released yet. Now this feature finally appears in Xcode 26, with a significantly expanded range of functions: supporting Apple's own AI models, native ChatGPT integration (with daily usage limits), supporting API access from third-party AI providers, and compatibility with locally running AI models.
A report by Bloomberg in May this year stated that Apple has been testing a Xcode version based on Claude and has been continuously evaluating the possibility of public release. At that time, the outside world only knew that Apple planned to expand the Swift Assist feature, and ChatGPT was the only confirmed partner.
According to server-side configuration files discovered by 9to5Mac, Claude may not only be integrated into Xcode, but also has the potential to serve as an alternative to Siri and system writing tools, providing users with a richer AI service experience.
For developers who prefer Claude's programming capabilities, this integration will provide a smoother built-in experience, allowing them to enjoy the service known as "the best coding assistant available today" without the hassle of complex API configurations.
